Chressie Muecke – West Sioux Studios Member Spotlight

Chressie Muecke Member Spotlight 1

March 2020 finds the West Sioux Studios Member Spotlight, highlighting the works of Chressie Muecke! While juggling the demands of being a wife, mother of three kiddos (plus a Miniature American Eskimo puppy), and working a full-time job as a financial crimes analyst, Chressie spends the rest of her time capturing amazing images as a spectacular photographer. Chressie has had the opportunity to work with many outstanding clients while dedicating her time and skills to capturing their weddings, newborns, families, engagements, children, and boudoir pictures.

Just looking at her photography, you can feel Chressie’s passion for spreading love, empowering her clients, and capturing beauty, innocence, goofiness, and happiness in all of her photos. Anyone who has the opportunity to work with her understands just how important it is that all of her models and clients leave the studio with a smile and more importantly a life long memory!

Chressie took her passion for people and capturing memories from a small part time hobby she shared with her closest family and friends to a full fledged service bringing joy to the Sioux Falls community. Recently she has partnered with Angels Among Us, a local movement aimed at providing relief for parents dealing with loss. Not just a terrific business woman and photographer, but an amazing example of giving and selflessness. We are so lucky to be working with Chressie Muecke here at West Sioux Studios.

Here are some insights from a little Q&A we did with Chressie:

How/When did you fall in love with photography? I had a few digital cameras back in high school, and played with photoshop quite a bit. I’ve always loved capturing photos whether it was on a camera or a phone as it helps keep memories alive.

Chressie Muecke Member Spotlight 3How/When did you decide to pursue photography as a profession? In late 2018, I noticed the few photographers I had the pleasure of working with seemed to really enjoy it. I always loved seeing others work, as each of us has our own editing style. I was nervous to get out there and start providing photography services to clients, but I knew I could do it. The passion inside of me gave the courage to just go for it! I honestly fall more and more in love with photography after every session.

Do you have a favorite “type” of photography (children, families, boudoir, weddings, etc….)? It’s so hard to choose just one type! I love keeping things different, but honestly I love my most challenging sessions — milestone/young children sessions. I get to be goofy, and capturing kids’ genuine along with “forced” smiles is always fun.

What is the craziest thing that has happened to you during a photo shoot? Luckily nothing too dangerous or scary has happened thus far, but one of the most hilarious moments was during my last newborn shoot. This little girl had a blowout all over one of my wraps, her mother apologized so many times as I laughed and assured her it was totally fine. I don’t think I’ve had a client so embarrassed even though it’s so common for babies to have accidents.

Tell us about the gear you use? I currently use a Canon RP body (mirrorless and full frame — totally love it!) and my favorite lens is probably my least expensive one that I’ve ever purchased — The canon 50 mm F1.8. I currently have a Sigma 50 mm F1.4 ART lens on the way and I’m extremely excited, as I have a good feeling it’ll be my new “go to” lens!

Shout out to any area professionals you collaborate with (Make-Up, Hair, Nails, Props, Clothing, etc…)? I make a monthly trip by myself to Hobby Lobby and Michaels craft stores for fun little props, flowers, random accessories and wraps for newborns. I graduated from Black Hills Beauty College in November 2011, although I no longer am in the cosmetology field, I still keep in contact with a few prior classmates who sometimes are willing to help!

What is your favorite image you have ever captured? I feel like I constantly have a new favorite photo each month! This one is definitely a keeper though, and I plan on getting it hung up for display soon!

What has been your impression of West Sioux Studios so far? I love working at West Sioux! All the photographers I’ve met through the studio have been so helpful and friendly. I definitely recommend it to any photographers looking for space to rent, as the membership pricing is hard to beat especially for all the furniture and lighting provided
